Joint commitment to avoid plastic waste with One Earth - One Ocean e.V.

The topic of sustainability has become more popular since the beginning of the Fridays for Future protests around Greta Thunberg. Acting socially and ecologically sustainable is becoming increasingly important.
And responsibility for the environment also plays a role for us as a company.

"Only when we have the social and ecological effects of our actions in view, we will
the responsibility that everyone has for people and the environment, "emphasizes Novus Dahle Managing Director Frank Indenkämpen.

In practice, we are anchoring more and more sustainable concepts and ideas in our day-to-day business as well as in production processes. With a variety of measures, such as printing on FSC certified paper, which comes from responsibly managed forests and the general reduction of print jobs, we rely on environmentally friendly action.

New life for old refrigerators - sustainable office supplies for the future

One of our ideas is the new office equipment series re + new. The office equipment consists to a large extent of recycled raw materials from already used products, such as refrigerators.

The careful use of resources as well as the best possible recycling is becoming more and more the focus of production. Now it is possible to recycle already used plastic by sorting it and then shredding it into fine and high quality material.

This recycled material is also used in our new re + new line of staplers and punches for the office. A certified recycling company with years of experience in the recycling of refrigerators makes the old appliances so-called recyclates. This refers to recyclable plastics derived from post-consumer waste. These were at least once in use by consumers, individuals, households and offices before being disposed of.

In order to reuse the material, selected components are processed into recyclates, which in turn are processed in our re + new office equipment. For a long time, we have also been using so-called post-industrial waste in production. These arise during production at various points. These are collected, shredded and reintroduced into the production chain.

By combining these two processes, we close the recycling cycle at Novus re + new and ensure the careful use of valuable resources. During product development, care was also taken to ensure that the packaging was completely plastic-free

Because the change to the Green Office benefits everyone and is not difficult at all, we have summarized the best tips on waste prevention in the office in this article

Fundraiser: The best way to protect the environment is education

With the new Novus re + new product series, we set an example for environmental protection and support the organization One Earth - One Ocean e.V. in their valuable work. For every stapler or punch of the new product series sold in 2019, Novus Dahle will donate between 50 cents and 1 euro to the environmental organization, thus helping to finance education and training projects on the topic of preventing and combating plastic waste. On the website of Novus Dahle the current donation status of the action can be viewed. But also during the introductory campaign in 2019 an additional 10.000 € donations were collected.

The best way to protect the environment is finally education. Because only if no new waste arises, the pollution of the oceans can be stopped. But where is the problem? And why is the protection of the seas so important?

The problem: More than 150 million tons of plastic waste in the sea.

Plastic waste is a problem. And one that is getting bigger and bigger. At the same time, it is one thing that has attracted so much publicity in the meantime that nobody can really close their eyes to it. Nobody wants garbage and yet more than 10 million tons of waste go into the oceans every year. Up to 80 percent of this is generated on land. An estimated three quarters are plastic.

A sad conclusion: More than 150 million tons of plastic waste are in our oceans today. Floating islands of garbage are spreading. The largest of these is the Great Pacific Garbage Patch in the Pacific. It has already reached the size of Central Europe. The life of this waste is up to 500 years. If this garbage madness is not stopped as soon as possible, the weight of plastic waste in the sea could already be greater in thirty years than that of the entire fish population. This has been shown by studies of the UN.

This is not only unpleasant when you want to swim in the sea, but endangers our entire ecosystem and also harms us humans. Ultimately, the plastic gets through so-called microplastic in our food chain. The exact effects of this are still unknown.

Good that there are people who are committed to sustainability and the protection of the seas. Novus also takes responsibility. With a fundraiser for the launch of the new re + new product line, the company is supporting the environmental organization One Earth - One Ocean e.V., and is battling the plastic garbage in the oceans.

One Earth – One Ocean e.V. – Together against plastic waste

Water and coastal protection is the central activity of the environmental organization One Earth - One Ocean e.V (OEOO), founded in 2011. The goal is summarized in a nutshell: It is about freeing water bodies worldwide from plastic waste, oil and other pollutants. To achieve this goal, the organization has developed a multi-level concept. With the "Maritime waste collection" plastic waste is collected with special ships and then recycled or converted into oil.
In addition, the association provides both nationally and internationally for education and education on the subject.
